More about the event and about Jordan Peterson:
Personal direction and Leadership
According to Jordan Peterson a single attribute defines a leader, above all others: direction. It is impossible to motivate yourself or others in the absence of vision, purpose and strategy. But most people—executives and managers included—have not spent the time and mental energy necessary to deeply consider and define their direction. This means the story they are telling themselves and others risks incoherence and lacks force. This makes it difficult for them to guide, direct and inspire those for whom they have responsibility.
People live inside stories. They frame and shape our world. The story you tell about what you are doing describes your current position (psychological and practical), your ultimate aims and goals, and the strategy that you are implementing to transform the former into the latter. You need to have that story straight and clear, or you won’t know what you are doing, why you are doing it, or how to truly motivate others.
On January 17 Jordan Peterson will provide you with a profound overview of the personal and social function that stories serve, describing their basic structure, the manner in which they transform, and their relationship to the great myths upon which entire societies are founded. Drawing on psychoanalytic theory, the latest findings in neuroscience, and broad cultural history, he will update your knowledge of psychology and describe the fundamental importance of your personal vision. In the middle part of the day you have the opportunity to initiate the process of formulating your own narrative of the future, using a program that will guide you, step by step, through the necessary and challenging process.
About Jordan Peterson
As a Harvard professor, he was nominated for the prestigious Levinson Teaching Prize, and is regarded by his current University of Toronto students as one of three truly life-changing teachers. His YouTube channel’s 260 videos have 450,000 subscribers and 25 million views, and his classroom lectures on mythology were turned into a popular 13-part TV series on public television.
With his students and colleagues, Dr. Peterson has published more than a hundred scientific papers, advancing the modern understanding of personality, and transforming the psychology of religion with his now-classic book, Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief.
He’s taught mythology to lawyers, doctors and businessmen, consulted for the UN Secretary General’s High Level Panel on Sustainable Development, helped his clinical clients manage depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, and schizophrenia, served as an advisor to senior partners of major Canadian law firms, identified thousands of promising entrepreneurs in 60 different countries, and lectured extensively in North America and Europe.
Dr. Peterson’s program The Self Authoring Suite radically improved the future of people all over the world. He recently completed a new book: 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos, which will be available from Penguin/Random House in January of 2018.
